NEWS RELEASE
Minneapolis, Minnesota—April 17, 2008—Eye of Horus presents Australian Wendy Rule, joined by Nordic Roots performer Kari Tauring and special guests Felonious Bosch for an evening of myth-inspired music at the Cedar Cultural Center, 416 Cedar Ave. S., on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Ticket price is $18 in advance and $22 at the door. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased through Ticketweb.com, Cedar outlets, the Cedar Ticketline at (612) 338-2674 ext 2 and the show’s sponsor, Eye of Horus Metaphysical store by phone at (888) 872-1292 or online at Eyeofhorus.biz.
Introduced by Radio Paganistan storyteller Steven Posch, the evening will unfold in three acts:
1. Dark and sardonic, Felonious Bosch sets the stage with music for the New Dark Ages. Meld medieval melody with middle-eastern overtones and add the twisted mystic lyrics of Katy Thomasberg to her powerful vocals, and you get a new old vibe.
2. Move on to the ancient Icelandic chants and Huldre stille tunings of Nordic Roots artist Kari Tauring as she returns to the Cedar stage with her huldre project. “Songs of the Völva” echos with the call of her ancestors.
3. Finish with the dark cabaret of Australian Wendy Rule. Her visionary lyrics draw on astrological and goddess mythologies, and her legendary live performance draws on her love of ritual and theater in a combination which transports the audience into an otherworldly realm of power and Magic.
A note from Wendy Rule: “This is sure to be one of the highlight concerts of this US tour. Both Kari and Felonious Bosch are wonderful acts, and the Cedar is a fantastic venue. The night will be full of Magic, Ritual and Music.”
About the Artists:
Wendy Rule has managed to carve a unique path through the musical mainstream, and has emerged with five major albums and a string of side projects to her name. With the release of her fifth full length album, The Wolf Sky, Rule has firmly established herself as one of Australia’s most uniquely gifted and prolific artists. Her music is a passionate union of her incredible voice – moving from soaring heights to intimate whispers – and her beautifully dark and visionary lyrics referencing astrological and goddess mythologies.
“Wendy Rule creates dark, sensual sonic theatre… compelling stuff.” – Rolling Stone Magazine, Australia
“Every so often Melbourne throws up a singular talent, someone previously hidden amongst the well-established musical tribes, someone possessed of a unique vision. Wendy Rule, the vocalist, songwriter and visionary, is such an artist.” – Beat Magazine, Melbourne
“If twilight has a voice, then that voice is Wendy Rule.” – New Witch Magazine, USA
Kari Tauring returns to the Cedar stage to present her huldre project, “ Songs of the Völva.” From Rune chants to Latvian lullabies, original tunes set to ancient Icelandic texts, and new twists on Norwegian folk standards Tauring’s work spans time and space. Her performance of Nordic vocal techniques, kulning, kveding, huldre loll and lokk accompanied by Stav (stick rhythm) and guitar resonate through the tap root of Norse heritage.
When asked, Kari explains the huldre:
“Huldre are a fairy folk of Norway and Iceland. Huldre stille is a tuning based on the langeleik (primarily a women’s instrument) which is tuned in A and D with a C or G added. I use ancient Danish texts, Icelandic chants, Rune songs and American story telling in the same tunes! It’s so much fun. It stretches us as musicians as well as giving us a deeper spiritual connection to our ancient past.”
Dark and sardonic, Felonious Bosch begins the evening with music for the New Dark Ages. The powerful vocal style of singer Katy Thomasberg floats and soars over the rhythms of bassist Drew Miller and percussionist Renée Bracchi. Shaken up and blended with Nemo’s dynamic riffing on bouzoukis, cittern and
guitar, David Stenshoel’s fiddle and Steve Clarke’s reeds, you get music that sparkles, with a centuries-old aftertaste.
“…Katy Thomasberg reinvents herself as a quasi-mystic probably headed for hell as she genre splices ancient sounding melodies from many cultures with dark lyrics sung by her soaring voice. A delightfully schizoid recording that shakes you up with its light-seeming sound floating through the heart of darkness.”
– Midwest Record Recap
“…intriguing, appealing… the Bosch mixes and matches Middle Eastern and Celtic folk music with (Katy) Thomasberg’s siren songs to create often mesmerizing tracks… …there’s a lighter-than-air quality to these songs, even as they often revolve around drones. Unusual and unusually attractive, Felonious Bosch gives folk tradition a 3.0 upgrade.”
– Michael Toland, High Bias

For the fifth year, Minneapolis will be one of 350 locations in 60 countries where citizens will gather to unite in the prayer for peace. The Secret and the LOA

Is it really the Law of Attraction? Let’s examine that. This concept is being touted as a Universal Law, like the Law of Gravity. A Universal Law is something that demonstrably works every time. The clearest explanation I’ve found of why it ain’t so, Joe, is provided by Skeptico at: http://skeptico.blogs.com/skeptico/2007/02/the_secret.html.
Hey! You say. Isn’t this a metaphysical blog? Well, yes, Virginia, it is. As a rational, thinking practitioner of metaphysical philosophy, I can definitively state that what you think, manifests. Sometimes. Quite often, in fact. But often not in the way you think it will, often at an angle, and often not in any physical way whatever. If you want to say, “Always” then The Law of Attention might be a better term for this phenomena. When you pay attention to a thought, idea, or goal, you are more likely to notice opportunities you would have overlooked before. You notice the synchronicity Jung wrote about. All those odd little coincidences which lead you on a marvelous path. Now, if all you are doing is visualizing and not paying attention and following those clues, it ain’t gonna do you squat. Well, maybe it’ll bend a bit, but not quite squat. The fact is, if all you do is start paying attention more than the other schmucks in this pre-occupied splatter-punk modern world we live in, you will find new levels of living.
Law of Attachment
But the way this whole Secret/LOA thing is being presented is really more like a Law of Attachment (which means Buddhists need not apply) or the Law Of Avarice: I want what I want and how do I get what I want and I deserve what I want, so I believe. It’s easy to believe in something that promises you the world on a platter.
But what if the world isn’t yours, or mine, or God/Goddess’s to dole out to his/her favorites. What if the world is the world and we are part of it, not owners, not the shapers–at least not more of a shaper than a dolphin or a butterfly? Maybe we are just a piece in that puzzle. We do not exist to collect or control other pieces, but to figure out where we fit in and make the whole thing come into a balance and harmony. I mean, because once you know you belong, you realize you already have everything, because you realize you are a part of everything, which is the exact opposite of this Attachment and Avarice which makes bestsellers. Maybe The Secret “they” don’t want you to know is that “they” are doing their darndest so you don’t view things in such a way. They want you to want and need, and they’ll sell you The Secret.
Which brings us to:
The Law of Attrition
The Law of Attrition is demonstrated by true believers in the pyramid-scheme of abundance who managed to time their jump onto the bandwagon just right, and actually seem to manifest whatever they want. Anyone late to the game is considered not really serious, or they aren’t visualizing right or believing enough, etc. So the true believers have their proof using a circular form of false-logic. If it worked for them and the people they riff off of, it must be true for everyone. And everyone knows there is only one truth and everyone must benefit from the one truth, right? Right?
But really, maybe we should be looking at the pure diversity of life and philosophy embodied by all of the myriad definitions for LOA found on the TheFreeDictionary: http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/LOA
I mean, are all these people talking about the power of LOA really talking about the Lesbians Of America, or quite possibly, the periodontal disease of the Loss Of Attachment. Maybe it is Life Of Agony? It’s really enough to give one a Loss Of Appetite. But there’s one more possibility that any metaphysician worth his or her himalayan salt must consider:
Or is it really just the Loa playing with us? According to Wikipedia:
The Loa (also Lwa or L’wha) are the spirits of the Vodou religion practiced in Haiti, and other parts of the world. They are also referred to as the Mystères and the Invisibles.
It’s all just a mystery, and the powers don’t really care whether or not you get your corvette.

Jim Butcher will be signing at Uncle Hugo’s Monday, April 9, from 5 to 6 pm. Presumably, to promote the release of his latest Dresden Files book, White Night, which comes out in Hardcover on April 1. Alas, we will probably not be carrying the hardcover. This wizard named Harry ain’t quite as popular with our folks as the younger Mr. Potter.

Christopher Lee’s ‘Revelation’

Legendary movie star, Christopher Lee has come up with another 1st. Aside from being our favorite naughty wizard in the Lord of the Rings films, at 84, he is the oldest solo recording artist in history. This isn’t exactly a singing debut, however. Throughout his 60-year film career, he has had singing credits in numerous films, soundtracks, and records. His latest project was a successful collaboration with metal band ‘Rhapsody’.

Recorded in the U.K., Spain and the U.S., Revelation covers a range of musical styles. Featured songs include: The Impossible Dream, I, Don Quixote (Man of la Mancha), Carmencita, The Toreador March (Flamenco), O Sole Mio (It’s Now or Never), High Noon, Wanderin’ Star, Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’, Name Your Poison, Toreador March (Metal Mix), The Little Drummer Boy, Silent Night.
We don’t have it in the store (yet) so you can buy Revelation at CD Baby, or just listen to some of the tracks.
Harry Potter Book VII has a Title

Not only that, but I’m going to share!
It’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”
The information was officially released in a brief statement by U.S. publisher Socholastic, Inc. No further information about the book is yet available. Rowling is still working on it.
Let’s face it, the news is boring, unless you
- Go to Rowling’s Home Page
- Click on the Erasor and go into the room where you’ll see a door, a window, and a mirror. In the mirror, you will see a hallway.
- Click on the farthest doorknob and look for the Christmas tree.
- Then click on the center of the door next ot the mirror. A Wreath will appear.
- Then click on the top of the mirror, and lo, you will see a garland.
- Notice a cobweb next to the door. You click on it and it disappears.
- Now look at the chimes in the window. Position your pointer above the second chime to the right, click and hold it down. The chime morphs into a key, which opens the door.
- Click on the wrapped gift behind the door. Click on it again and you can reveal the title yourself by playing a game of hangman.

We know many of the folk who frequent our store are fans of the Lord of the Rings. For a lot of us, we discovered our love of myth or runes or herbs through an early influence of Tolkien’s work. We thought you would like to support the effort to bring the Hobbit to the screen by the same director who gave us the Lord of the Rings trilogy. We wanted to make sure you knew there is something you can do.
