Labyrinth

Eye of Horus is more than a metaphysical store. In 2005 we built a labyrinth in the empty space next to our store which was being used as a neighborhood dumping ground, and we have been growing a garden around it ever since.

the Labyrinth in Spring

Separated from Lyndale Ave. by a 14 ft. wall which looks like part of the storefront from the sidewalk, our secret labyrinth garden has grown into a haven for mind, body and spirit.

A wide variety of perennials have been planted around the labyrinth for year-round fragrance and beauty. For spring, there are tulips, daffodils, bleeding hearts and the occasional crocus cluster.  Summer brings out the daylilies, oriental lilies, and a variety of wildflowers.

When you walk the labyrinth, it is with a focus. This focus could be a question, a problem or a situation you need clarity on. Or perhaps you are you seeking peace, inner connection, or clearing your mind of clutter. Maybe you need a moment when you re-unite with the Earth, your Spirit, or with the Divine.

See the triquetra stone in the center of the labyrinth. Yes, you do step on it. This is a piece of functional art–stained glass set in concrete which we purchased at a local art fair.

Triquetra

Triquetra

The Triquetra represents the ‘Power of Three’ or the threefold nature of existence i.e. body, mind and spirit; life, death and rebirth; past present and future; beginning, middle and end; Sun Moon and Earth; etc.

Many believe the Triquetra is an ancient symbol of the female trinity of Maiden, Mother and Crone; because it is composed of three interlaced yonic Vesica Pisces (Latin for “Vessel of the Fish”) which is the most basic and important construction in Sacred Geometry. Historically, Celtic Christians referred to it as the Trinity Knot, representing the male trinity, though the symbol predates the Christian era.

The Labyrinth is Open

This is the earliest we’ve had a clear labyrinth for walking, if you don’t mind the rather moist air this weekend. (Picture of Labyrinth clear for walking) The garden isn’t very green yet, but I do see some tulip and daffodil shoots poking up through the dirt. I also see what look like the beginning of some weeds. Still, green is... Read Full Article »

UFO sighted at the Eye

Jane was walking up to the store this morning and spotted an Unidentified Flower Object (UFO). The two inch flower had poked it’s face through the leaves of one of our Lilac bushes. Unidentified Flower Object But this little lady looked nothing like a lilac. First off, it was a pale yellow, and secondly, it was a single flower. The center puff... Read Full Article »

Planning for Planting in 2009

I got a $50 Home Depot gift card last week, and it didn’t last very long.  I bought seeds for the labyrinth, and those little greenhouse peat pellet units – two 72-plant trays, two 25-plant trays and two 12-plant trays.  I’ve never tried the peat pellet setup before . . .  I sure hope it works.  The ones germinating now are for... Read Full Article »
