One of the most often recommended books on Chakras, Wheels of Life by Anodea Judith, Ph.D. is subtitled as “a users guide to the chakra system” and it does a good job of living up to it’s title. Many books on this subject are written for a reader already familiar with the intricacies of yoga and the mythology of India. Those are great if you were raised with that, but for the western reader, Wheels of Life is a better, more readable introduction. Read more

Earthdance - Sept 15th
For the fifth year, Minneapolis will be one of 350 locations in 60 countries where citizens will gather to unite in the prayer for peace. Nearly half a million people are expected to take part in Earthdance, the world’s largest synchronized music and dance festival for peace. Events will take place from noon to 10 p.m. at Minnehaha Falls Park on Saturday, Sept. 15.Workshops on yoga and dance, body and energywork, activities for kids and music–with DJ sound, dance and spoken word–will lead up to a drum and dance jam from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by headline artists Michael Monroe and others to be determined. A unique aspect of Earthdance, now in its 11th year, is the Global Synch when participants worldwide say a peace prayer at the same time (6 p.m.), and a new feature, the Global H2Om initiative in which the OM frequency will be broadcast. Four of the world’s major rivers (Nile, Ganges, Amazon and Mississippi) will have underwater speakers sending this healing sound throughout the water. There is a $10 donation, but no one will be turned away. Bring drums, scarves, toys, items for the altar, and food to share at the potluck station, water and non-alcoholic beverages. Also in the Upper Midwest, the Oshkosh Rhythm Institute is hosting an Earthdance gathering at 803 Waugoo Ave. in Oshkosh, WI. For more details, visit http://www.earthdance.org/.
